I know, I know.
You all need another social media obligation like a hole in the head (as my mother used to say....)
But here's the thing:
Blogs are for conversations about events and ideas and personalities. They're for sharing experiences and telling ridiculous stories about the crazy things that happen on a daily basis (OK, so that's what they are for me....and this is, after all, my blog....)
Twitter is for something else entirely.
It's like IM in groups. Texting to a crowd. Sending out a little message (only 140 characters, so we're talking *little* messages) to an entire community -- to the Web, to their cell phones, to their computer screens.
I'm going to ask ALL of our students this fall to follow TweetStephens, my Twitter group. That will allow us to contact them quickly and easily -- and I promise, we won't pester. (There's nothing more annoying than the guy who tweets about his every life experience: "I'm in the car, on the way to the grocery store; sure hope they have the donuts I like!" and "Sitting at home on Friday night, wishing I had a life...." You know that guy -- right? Me, too. I'm not him. Really.)
So do us a favor and join the community. If you already tweet, just add the page.
If you don't, you can. It's easy. Here's how:
Log on to Twitter: www.twitter.com.
It looks like this:
Click on the green button: Get Started -- Join!
Fill out the form and create an account:
Skip through the next couple of screens (unless you want to track down your friends on Twitter, in which case, please do that....and THEN, join TweetStephens:
Look at the tabs at the top of the page and click on "Find Friends." Then click "Find on Twitter" and type in "tweetstephens."
And voila! You're in the tweetstephens community!
Now tell us: What are you doing?
